Refillable Cosmetic Jars

A refillable cosmetic jar keeps the decorated outer jar and lid in use and replaces only a lightweight inner cup or pod, which reduces plastic per use while preserving the premium pack the brand paid to develop.

Refillable Cosmetic Jars

What are refillable cosmetic jars?

Refillable packaging is a design decision, not a material claim. The environmental benefit depends on how many times the outer pack is actually reused, so the mechanics — easy removal, clean insertion, secure locking — determine whether customers refill or discard.

We develop refill jars as a matched system: outer shell and lid in durable PP or PCR PP, inner cup in PP or PCR PP, with a release mechanism that requires no tools and a positive lock that prevents rattle in transit.

Product features

Plastic reduction per use

A refill cup uses a fraction of the resin of a full jar-and-lid pack, so repeated refills reduce material per unit sold.

Tool-free refill

Snap-in and screw-in mechanisms that need no tools keep the refill experience simple enough that customers actually use it.

Locked fit for transport

Positive locking prevents the refill cup from rattling or shifting during e-commerce shipping and retail handling.

Who it is suitable for

  • Subscription-style repeat SKUs
  • Sustainability-led launch kits

Customisation options

Refillable Cosmetic Jars can be delivered as a stock-mould pack with your colour and decoration, or developed into a proprietary format. Decoration is specified against the final surface finish so print adhesion and colour hold in use.

  • Custom colour matching on body, lid or both
  • Screen printing on the jar wall
  • UV digital printing on the lid
  • Hot stamping on lid and shoulder
  • Frosted, soft-touch, rubberised or metallic coating
  • In-mould labelling and disc-top lid inserts
  • Custom lid thickness, wall thickness and double-wall spacing

How these are manufactured

Parts are moulded by injection, injection blow or extrusion blow moulding depending on the format and material, then assembled, decorated and inspected in lots. Moulding parameters are recorded per mould so repeat orders match the approved sample. Read the manufacturing process.

Quality control

Dimension and weight checks, closure torque, leak and dose testing where relevant, colour verification (ΔE ≤ 1.5 opaque parts) and AQL 1.0/2.5 final inspection. Lot records are supplied with the shipping documents. See the inspection checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most about refillable cosmetic jars. Send any specific question through the contact form and a packaging engineer will reply in writing.

How many times can a refillable jar be reused?

The outer shell is designed for multiple refill cycles, but the achievable number depends on the mechanism and how the customer handles it. We recommend validating reuse with an internal abrasion and closure-cycle test rather than publishing a number the design cannot guarantee.

Is refillable packaging always better for the environment?

Only when the pack is actually reused several times. Reuse reduces material per use, but the benefit depends on customer behaviour, refill availability and the durability of the outer pack — which is why we test mechanism cycles before quoting reuse claims.

Can a refillable jar be made from PCR plastic?

Yes, PCR PP is commonly used for both the outer shell and the refill cup, with certified recycled content where the selected grade holds a certificate.

What is the MOQ for a refillable jar system?

Refill systems start at 3,000 pcs per component, with the outer shell, lid, refill cup and any secondary packing quoted separately so the refill economics are visible.

What is the MOQ for refillable cosmetic jars?

1,000 pcs per design for stock moulds; 3,000 pcs for decorated orders; 10,000 pcs per size for custom moulds.

Can I customise the colour?

Yes. Colour is matched to a Pantone reference or a physical sample and verified on production-resin parts. Custom colour matching on body, lid or both is the standard route, and we supply samples for approval before the run.

Can you print or emboss my logo?

Yes — printing, hot stamping, coating, labelling and custom closures are all available for refillable cosmetic jars. Choose the method with your surface finish in mind: gloss print or foil works best on matte and soft-touch surfaces.

Can I request samples?

Stock samples in 5–10 working days; custom colour and decorated samples in 10–20 working days. Stock samples are supplied free (up to five pieces per SKU, courier at your cost); custom colour and decorated samples are quoted per project, typically USD 120–450.

Can you develop a custom mould?

Yes. Custom tooling is quoted as a separate line item with the cavity plan stated, usually from around 10,000 pcs per size and 25–40 calendar days from drawing approval to first-article inspection.

What is the production lead time?

15–30 working days after sample approval, depending on quantity, decoration and assembly complexity.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship refillable cosmetic jars to the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and Latin America, quoting FOB, CIF, DDP and air freight.

Which materials are available?

PP (virgin and PCR), PCR PP, Acrylic shell with PP cup, Bio-based PE options. Selection is driven by formula compatibility, clarity requirements, decoration and any recycled-content target.
