Stock moulds, custom moulds and the crossover
Most launches do not need new tooling. A stock mould with custom colour, printing and finishing typically reaches market in weeks rather than months and removes tooling risk from the budget. Tooling is justified when shape or function is central to the brand, when a specific neck finish is required for a proprietary dispenser, or when volume makes a custom cavity plan cheaper per unit.
