Recycled plastic is an input decision with an output consequence. Choosing it reduces virgin resin demand, and the reduction is proportional to your order volume — which makes it one of the few sustainability measures in packaging that is easy to quantify.
The discipline is in the wording. Two streams, several polymers and multiple certification schemes exist, and a claim that does not name the stream, polymer, percentage and verification method will not survive scrutiny from a retailer's sustainability team.

Where recycled content is easiest — and hardest
Format and colour determine how straightforward a recycled programme is.
- Easiest: opaque HDPE bottles, coloured PP jars, PE tubes, closures
- Moderate: rPET bottles in tinted or frosted finishes
- Hardest: glass-clear PET, bright white parts, mirror-metallic surfaces
- Best combined with: mono-material design and front-and-back labelling so sorting works

How much recycled plastic can a cosmetic pack contain?
Between 25% and 100% post-consumer content is realistic depending on polymer, colour and grade availability. We quote the percentage of the grade selected and supply documentation where the grade is certified.
Is recycled plastic safe for cosmetic packaging?
Cosmetic and food-contact grades of recycled PE and PET are available and are used for direct contact with cosmetic formulas, with declarations for the grade. Recycled grades are subject to the same compatibility and migration considerations as virgin resin.
Will recycled plastic look different?
It can. High recycled percentages reduce colour consistency and can shift white or clear packs warmer or greyer. We supply samples in the production colour and finish for approval before the run.
Can recycled content be added without changing my moulds?
In most cases yes, because the polymer type is unchanged. Moulding parameters are adjusted, and thin-wall or high-clarity parts may need wall thickness review.
